Laminar Field

Project, 2018
Commissioned by Alameda County Arts Commission
Oakland, California

Laminar Field is a wall-mounted public artwork commissioned for the Alameda County IT Department’s new headquarters in Oakland. The sculptural installation consists of 202 individual panels that coalesce into a singular volume that evokes a kind of artificial cloud, allowing for variable perceptions from different perspectives. In an abstract way, the artwork references the dynamic qualities of a fog bank, the ripples of the Bay, and the data-rich cloud. It captures and diffuses the natural light from outside, providing a dynamic and engaging presence for both IT Department employees and passersby on the sidewalk outside the building.
